Why India Should Take Back PoK from Pakistan ?
PoK stands for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the name used by India for the portion of Kashmir under Pakistani administration. PoK historically belonged to the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir which is integral part of India due to signing of Instrument of Accession but it is unlawfully occupied by the Pakistan in 1947.
Ever since then, PoK has been a source of conflict and tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, who have fought three wars over the disputed territory.
There are many reasons why India should take back PoK from Pakistan, both strategic and moral. Here are some of them:
PoK is legally and historically part of India. The Instrument of Accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947, gave India full control over Jammu and Kashmir, including PoK. Pakistan’s invasion and occupation of PoK was a violation of international law and the UN resolutions that called for a plebiscite to determine the will of the people of Kashmir. India has a legitimate claim over PoK based on historical, legal and constitutional grounds.
PoK is vital for India’s security and development. PoK borders China, Afghanistan and Central Asia, making it a strategic location for India’s defense and trade interests. PoK also contains rich natural resources, such as water, minerals and hydropower potential, that can benefit India’s economy and energy needs. Moreover, PoK is home to many cultural and religious sites that are important for India’s heritage and identity, such as Sharda Peeth, an ancient center of learning and pilgrimage.
PoK is suffering under Pakistan’s oppression and exploitation. Pakistan has failed to provide basic rights and amenities to the people of PoK, who are subjected to discrimination, violence and terrorism. Pakistan has also exploited the natural resources of PoK without sharing the benefits with the local population, causing environmental degradation and poverty. Pakistan has also used PoK as a base for launching cross-border attacks and supporting militant groups that target India and Kashmir.
Therefore, India should take back PoK from Pakistan as soon as possible, to end the injustice and suffering of the people of PoK, to secure its own national interests and sovereignty, and to restore peace and stability in the region.
