Supriya Sule May Become Working / Executive President With Ajit Pawar As President Of NCP

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is one of the key allies of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in Maharashtra, along with the Shiv Sena and the Congress. The party, founded by veteran leader Sharad Pawar in 1999, has been a major force in the state politics for over two decades. However, the party is also facing some challenges in terms of its leadership succession and future direction.

Sharad Pawar, who is 81 years old, has been the president of the NCP since its inception. He is widely respected as a seasoned politician and a master strategist, who has played a crucial role in forming and sustaining the MVA government. However, he has also indicated that he wants to retire from active politics and hand over the reins of the party to the next generation.

The question then arises: who will be the next president of the NCP? And what will be the role of Sharad Pawar’s nephew and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who is seen as his heir apparent?

According to some sources within the party, there is a possibility that Sharad Pawar may appoint his daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule as the working or executive president of the NCP, while Ajit Pawar may become the president of the party. This arrangement may be a way to balance the interests and aspirations of both the leaders and their supporters within the party.

Supriya Sule, who represents the Baramati constituency in Pune district, is considered to be a popular and dynamic leader, who has a good rapport with the workers and the voters. She is also seen as a bridge between the NCP and its allies, especially the Shiv Sena and the Congress. She has been vocal on various issues concerning the state and the country, such as farmers’ rights, women’s empowerment, education, health and environment.

Ajit Pawar, who is also the finance minister of Maharashtra, is regarded as a powerful and influential leader, who has a strong hold over the party’s organization and finances. He is also credited with expanding the party’s base in various regions of the state, especially in western Maharashtra. He has been loyal to his uncle Sharad Pawar and has played a key role in resolving various crises faced by the party.

However, Ajit Pawar has also been involved in some controversies in the past, such as his brief alliance with the BJP in 2019, which led to a short-lived government under Devendra Fadnavis. He has also faced allegations of corruption and irregularities in various irrigation projects during his tenure as water resources minister.

Some analysts believe that by making Supriya Sule the working or executive president of the NCP, Sharad Pawar may be trying to groom her as his successor and also to avoid any conflict or resentment among Ajit Pawar and his supporters. By making Ajit Pawar the president of the party, Sharad Pawar may be giving him due recognition and responsibility for leading the party.

However, some others argue that this arrangement may not be feasible or acceptable to both Supriya Sule and Ajit Pawar, as they may have different visions and styles of functioning. They may also face some resistance from other senior leaders and factions within the party, who may have their own ambitions and aspirations.

Moreover, this arrangement may also create some confusion and uncertainty among the workers and the voters about who is actually in charge of the party and what is its future direction. It may also affect the stability and cohesion of the MVA government, which is already facing some challenges from various quarters.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Sharad Pawar will indeed go ahead with this plan or whether he will come up with some other solution to address the issue of leadership succession in his party. Whatever he decides, it will have a significant impact on not only his party but also on Maharashtra politics and beyond.
